SHELBURNE, Vt. and CAPE TOWN, SA.- One of my most cherished memories while visiting South Africa is having a glass of wine with my boyfriends mother. Simple but true. I think wine is the Earths way of saying, “You deserve a nice time, here… let me grow some grapes for you and if you wait long enough they’ll make you really happy.”
In South Africa there are many beautiful vineyards in the Cape. And the wine is even more exceptional than the view.
But even better than going to a vineyard, was sitting on the porch or at the dinner table and sipping nice wine with Helene and her family. I often think about those times.
Here in Vermont, there are also quite a few wineries. Not as many as there are in South Africa but it’s getting there.
If you ever plan to visit the United States, you have to visit me in Vermont. We can go to the vineyard right down the street from me (literally 10 minutes away it’s great.)
Shelburne Vineyard in Vermont has the closest wine I’ve had to South Africa’s standard of wine. A tasting is about $8 which is about 80 Rand (SA currency) and you get to try most or all of the wine. It’s quite affordable too (I think anyways) to buy a bottle. But even better than buying a bottle from Shelburne Vineyard…
…..Buying a bag of wine… Capri Sun for adults, basically.
This stuff is super drinkable and in a nifty little pouch that lasts longer than a bottle… there’s about two bottles worth of wine inside and it’s amazing.
So, Helene, I know it’s far-fetched that you would visit all the way from SA just for the wine in Vermont…. but …. if you do decided to visit…. I guess we’ll let Jean-Pierre tag along to the vineyard too so you can also visit him.
And for anyone else that enjoys wine… (hi mom!) you are more than welcome to visit me in Vermont and I will take you on the Vermont Wine Tour!
“Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy,” said Benjamin Franklin.
Right on Ben… couldn’t have said it better myself.
